Amazon India Introduces ₹5 Marketplace Fee, Aligns with E-Comm Rivals

The flat per-order fee mirrors similar charges by Flipkart, Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart.

Amazon India has implemented a new ₹5 marketplace fee on all customer orders, bringing its pricing structure in line with other major e-commerce and quick commerce platforms. The fee, inclusive of taxes, applies to each transaction, with a few category-based exemptions.

With this move, Amazon joins players like Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart, all of whom have introduced per-order fees in recent months. Amazon’s primary competitor, Flipkart, introduced a ₹3 order fee in mid-2024.

The ₹5 charge will be collected by Amazon to help maintain and enhance its marketplace infrastructure, which supports a vast selection of products from a wide seller network. This fee will appear as a separate line item at checkout, and be visible in confirmation emails and order invoices.

The fee applies to all customers, including Prime members, and is levied per transaction regardless of cart size. However, the following categories are exempt:

  • Gift cards (digital and physical)
  • Orders via Amazon Business, Bazaar, Amazon Now, and Amazon Fresh
  • Digital services like mobile recharges, bill payments, insurance, app purchases, and subscriptions

In instances where a separate offer processing or exchange fee already applies, the ₹5 charge will not be listed separately-at least for now.

Refund policy for the marketplace fee includes:

  • Full cancellation before shipment: full fee refund
  • Partial cancellation: proportional refund
  • Full doorstep rejection: full refund
  • Partial rejection: partial refund
  • Post-delivery returns: no refund

Amazon assures that the marketplace fee will be clearly displayed before purchase completion across order summaries, emails, and invoices.
