Reliance Retail, under the leadership of Isha M. Ambani, has announced the acquisition of Kelvinator from Electrolux, marking a strategic leap into India’s booming home appliances market. The deal-reported to be around ₹160 crore-aims to expand Reliance’s footprint in premium appliances, including refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines.
Kelvinator, once dubbed “The Coolest One” in India during the 1970s and ’80s, brings rich heritage and brand equity in refrigeration. With this purchase, Reliance Retail intends to combine Kelvinator’s legacy of innovation with its formidable retail network-Reliance Digital stores and omni-channel platforms-to offer high-quality, globally benchmarked appliances to millions of consumers.
Isha Ambani commented, “Our mission has always been to serve the diverse needs of every Indian by making technology accessible, meaningful, and future‑ready. The acquisition of Kelvinator marks a pivotal moment, enabling us to significantly broaden our offering of trusted global innovations to Indian consumers. This is powerfully supported by our unmatched scale, comprehensive service capabilities, and market‑leading distribution network” .
Reliance Retail-already the only Indian retailer in Deloitte’s Global Top 100-plans to leverage this move to accelerate growth in the consumer durables sector, enhance consumer engagement, and deepen its presence across urban and rural India.
By integrating Kelvinator into its ecosystem, Reliance is set to offer improved choice and elevate everyday living through technology, reinforcing its position as a leader in the retail landscape.
