Hyundai Motor India has announced a key leadership transition, naming Tarun Garg as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, while Unsoo Kim will return to South Korea to take on a strategic role at Hyundai Motor Company.
The company’s Board of Directors approved the succession plan, confirming that Kim, the current MD, will step down effective December 31, 2025, after providing strategic guidance that contributed significantly to Hyundai’s growth in India.
Tarun Garg, currently Whole-time Director, will assume the role of MD & CEO on January 1, 2026, subject to shareholder approval, and will serve as MD & CEO designate in the interim.
A mechanical engineer and alumnus of IIM Lucknow, Garg began his career in 1994 as a management trainee at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., rising to the position of Executive Director of Marketing by 2019. He joined Hyundai Motor India in December 2019 as Director of Sales, Marketing, and Service and was elevated to Chief Operating Officer in January 2023.
Garg, alongside outgoing MD Unsoo Kim, played a pivotal role in overseeing India’s largest automotive IPO last year, strengthening Hyundai’s footprint in the country.
Hyundai Motor India has filed detailed disclosures regarding the leadership change in compliance with SEBI regulations, ensuring transparency for shareholders and stakeholders.
With Garg at the helm, the company is expected to continue its growth trajectory while building on the strategic foundation laid during Kim’s tenure.
