The initiative supports drivers in transitioning to electric vehicles as part of Uber’s 2040 all-electric fleet goal.
Uber Technologies has announced the rebranding of its “Uber Green” service to “Uber Electric”, alongside a $4,000 grant program to help U.S. drivers purchase electric vehicles. The move is part of the company’s broader “Go Electric” initiative aimed at achieving a fully zero-emission fleet by 2040, Reuters reported.
The grants will be available to eligible drivers in states including California, New York, Colorado, and Massachusetts. These can be combined with local discounts and incentives, potentially reducing vehicle costs further, especially after the expiration of the $7,500 federal tax credit for new EVs last month.
Earlier in 2025, Uber converted its U.S. “Uber Green” fleet to all-electric, removing hybrid vehicles. Currently, the platform operates over 200,000 EVs globally, with adoption among drivers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe reportedly up to five times faster than other motorists. Uber also noted that one in four riders experienced an electric vehicle for the first time via the app.
To celebrate the rebrand, riders will receive a 20 percent discount on their next electric trip. Additionally, Uber is expanding its battery-aware matching feature to 25 countries, a system designed to reduce drivers’ “range anxiety” by optimizing routes and charging stops.
The combined efforts – rebranding, grants, and technological support – underscore Uber’s commitment to accelerating EV adoption and making electric mobility more accessible to both drivers and riders worldwide.
