Pratilipi Launches Double Tap Films to Build Mobile-First Microdrama Content

Pratilipi has announced the launch of Double Tap Films, a microdrama-focused studio aimed at creating short-form, vertical video content for mobile-first audiences. The move marks the company’s expansion from a storytelling platform into content production, leveraging its vast ecosystem to identify and develop high-potential intellectual property (IP).

The studio will draw from Pratilipi’s library of over 20 million stories, supported by data from more than 2 million authors and 800 million monthly reads. This data-driven approach allows the company to gauge audience preferences and validate story ideas before production begins, reducing risk and improving content-market fit.

Double Tap Films’ content will be distributed across multiple platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, MX Player, Hungama OTT, Reelies, DramaWave, and others. Its initial slate features titles such as Avnika Ki Shaadi, Apavitra, Raavan, and CEO Se Romeo, spanning genres like romance and family drama and produced in multiple Indian languages.

The studio is positioned as an experimentation hub, designed to test formats and identify stories that can scale into longer formats, gaming adaptations, or even international markets. This aligns with the growing popularity of microdrama content, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, where mobile-first consumption continues to rise.

Pratilipi leaders emphasised that the initiative is not just about producing short-form content but about defining a new storytelling language for mobile screens. With increasing demand and over 250 million downloads of microdrama apps in India, Double Tap Films aims to play a key role in shaping the future of mobile entertainment.
