Air India changes profile images to black across all platforms in a gesture of mourning and solidarity.
Following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171, the airline has turned all its official social media accounts dark as a mark of respect for the lives lost.
Air India’s profiles on X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook now feature a plain black display picture and banner, signaling a moment of collective grief and mourning after the fatal incident in Ahmedabad.
The flight, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, had taken off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 PMon Thursday, heading for London Gatwick. It was departing from runway 23 when disaster struck shortly into the journey.
According to aviation authorities, the aircraft issued a MAYDAY call just minutes after takeoff.
As of the latest reports, at least 40 people have been confirmed dead in the crash.
Reacting to the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences:
“The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected.”
