BCCI Opens Bids for Team India Sponsorship, Bars Gaming and Crypto Brands

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for lead sponsorship of the Indian national cricket team, launching a new sponsorship cycle with a strict eligibility framework.

Interested parties must purchase the IEOI document by September 12 for a non-refundable fee of ₹5 lakh plus GST, and submit their bids by September 16. However, BCCI clarified that buying the document does not guarantee bidding rights-only applicants meeting the defined financial and legal criteria will qualify.

To be eligible, bidders must show an average annual turnover or net worth of ₹300 crore over the last three audited years and be deemed a ‘Fit and Proper Person’, based on BCCI’s discretion. This includes factors such as criminal record, conflict of interest, and financial integrity.

The BCCI has banned bidders involved in online gaming, betting, cryptocurrency, and surrogate branding. Citing the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, the board reaffirmed its stand against indirect or proxy bids through alternative entities or brands.

Certain Blocked Categories-such as sportswear, insurance, and cold beverages-are also restricted to existing sponsors. Additionally, Prohibited Categories include alcohol, tobacco, gambling, and any brand offensive to public morals.

With this move, BCCI aims to attract a credible and brand-safe partner for one of the most visible sponsorships in Indian sport, emphasizing transparency and integrity in the selection process.
