BCCI to Seek New Jersey Sponsor as Dream11 Faces Exit Amid Online Gaming Ban

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to issue fresh tenders for Team India’s jersey sponsorship, as its current sponsor, Dream11, faces operational restrictions under the recently passed Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025.

The bill, approved by the Rajya Sabha and awaiting presidential assent, prohibits real-money gaming companies from operating in India. This development directly impacts Dream11 – currently the principal jersey sponsor for the Indian cricket team – along with other gaming firms like MPL and Zupee. Once the law comes into effect, such companies will be ineligible for brand associations with national sports teams.

While Team India still dons the Dream11 logo, the BCCI could face regulatory penalties if the association continues post-enactment. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, speaking to The Times of India, stated, “Once the Act comes into force, we will evaluate the legal position. If it’s permissible, we will consider such sponsorships. If not, we won’t proceed.”

Sources suggest the BCCI might explore options to delay the law’s implementation until after the Asia Cup 2025, which begins September 9 in the UAE, allowing time to transition to a new sponsor.

Dream11 had replaced Byju’s in 2023 with a reported three-year deal worth ₹358 crore. With the exit likely, leading Indian conglomerates such as Tata, Jio, Adani, and new-age companies like Zerodha may express interest in the upcoming tender.

The Indian men’s team is set to participate in the Asia Cup, while the women’s team will host Australia from September 14.
