BIG FM, in collaboration with the Adani Group, has rolled out a landmark sustainability campaign titled ‘Story of Suraj’, designed to amplify awareness around solar energy across India. Envisioned as a comprehensive 360-degree initiative, the campaign spanned 39 cities, blending radio, digital, and on-ground activations to foster action and dialogue on clean energy.
The campaign launched with a nationwide content roadblock, introducing audiences to the journey of Suraj Bhaiya. More than 80 RJs contributed over 250+ original content pieces, reaching 2.91 crore radio listeners. Digital amplification added another layer of reach, garnering over 21 million impressions across BIG Live and RJ social handles, creating deep emotional connections and engagement.
A standout achievement was the world’s first dual-city solar-powered live radio broadcast from Delhi and Pune, powered entirely by solar energy-completely off-grid and diesel-free. This innovation earned the campaign recognition in both the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records, setting a global precedent in sustainable media practices.
On-ground activations in Delhi, Pune, Modhera, Indore, and Lucknow included solar-powered studio experiences, live music, pledge walls, and inspirational stories from real solar energy beneficiaries. The Solar Rooftop Studio Shift gave a platform to grassroots voices, while social media extended the campaign’s reach with village stories, tips, and behind-the-scenes content.
Sunil Kumaran, CEO, BIG FM, remarked, “This campaign is a celebration of purpose-driven creativity. From record-breaking innovations to emotional storytelling, ‘Story of Suraj’ shows how media can ignite meaningful change.”
The campaign culminated with a live broadcast from Modhera Gram Panchayat, India’s first fully solar-powered village-underscoring a vision for a cleaner, greener future.
