CNN’s Call to Earth Day marks fifth anniversary with global call to protect green spaces

Half a million participants expected to join the 2025 edition celebrating conservation efforts worldwide

On November 6, 2025CNN will celebrate the fifth anniversary of its global environmental initiative, Call to Earth Day, uniting schools, organizations, and individuals around the world to take collective action for the planet. The 2025 theme, “Guard Your Green Space,” encourages communities to protect their natural surroundings – from rewilding projects in Europe to tree-planting in Africa and local school gardens in the U.S.

Last year, more than 230,000 participants across 107 countries took part, and registrations for 2025 have already surpassed that record, with over 500,000 people expected to join this year’s movement. Throughout the day, CNN will feature global stories of conservation through live programming, interviews, and documentaries across its international networks.

Highlights include a special documentary titled “No Blue, No Green: A Conversation with Sylvia Earle,” where CNN’s Bill Weir interviews the legendary oceanographer about the future of marine conservation. CNN en EspañolCNN Arabic, and CNN10 will also feature regional and educational content, while Asia Pacific Correspondent Hanako Montgomery reports from Japan’s Tsushima Island on efforts to save the endangered leopard cat.

Digital initiatives on CNN.com and social platforms will include interactive features, live blogs, and influencer collaborations under the hashtag #CallToEarth.

Ellana Lee, CNN Group SVP, said, “As Call to Earth Day turns five, it reminds us what’s possible when people unite to protect the planet. This year’s record participation reflects growing global commitment to conservation.”
