Lionsgate has announced the sale of its streaming platform, Lionsgate Play, in India and Southeast Asia to Rohit Jain, the executive who originally built and scaled the service across the region. While ownership of the platform changes hands, Lionsgate will continue to retain all its other film and television businesses in India and Southeast Asia, ensuring the studio’s broader presence in these markets remains intact.

Rohit Jain, who served as president of Lionsgate Play Asia for eight years, will now transition fully into managing the platform under founder-led ownership and exit the studio as part of the transaction. The move places Lionsgate Play under leadership with deep regional understanding and a focused vision for Asia’s rapidly evolving digital entertainment landscape.

Under a multi-year agreement, Lionsgate will continue to license the Lionsgate Play brand name and provide access to its extensive catalogue of films and television series. This ensures continuity for viewers while allowing the platform to scale independently in one of the world’s fastest-growing streaming markets.

Lionsgate COO Brian Goldsmith credited Jain for strengthening the Lionsgate brand across South and Southeast Asia and establishing Lionsgate Play as a distinctive premium streaming destination.
