GAIL’s ‘Hawa Badlo’ campaign merges creativity and impact for a cleaner future

GAIL (India) Limited’s flagship social initiative, Hawa Badlo, continues to set benchmarks in environmental communication, championing cleaner air and sustainable living across India.

Since its launch in 2016, the campaign has promoted the adoption of cleaner fuels such as natural gas, biogas, and renewables, while inspiring individuals to incorporate eco-friendly practices into their daily lives.

The campaign’s innovative approach has earned widespread industry recognition, including Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards at Goafest 2022 and 2023, honors at the Abby One Show Awards, and accolades from the Shark & Brand Bharat Awards. Its OTT series Hawa Badle Hassu received appreciation at the News18 iReel Awards 2019, while the short film Kadvi Hawa Badlo, which depicted a dystopian, submerged Mumbai, highlighted the urgency of climate action and was shortlisted at the Jaipur International Film Festival.

High-impact initiatives like the Green Ride with fitness icon Milind Soman-covering 1,400 km from Mumbai to Delhi, celebrity-led activations with Vivek Oberoi, Vir Das, and Govind Namdev, and on-ground campaigns such as gifting smart nasal filters to Mumbai’s traffic police, have reinforced the campaign’s real-world relevance.

Grassroots programs like Power of Green (tree plantation), Switch2Swachh (promoting CNG and emission checks), Change For Good (raising awareness about oxygen depletion), and Reconnect to Roots (reviving sustainable practices) extend its impact into communities nationwide.

With a seamless blend of creativity, storytelling, and actionable interventions, Hawa Badlo has established itself as one of India’s most effective environmental communication movements, reinforcing GAIL’s commitment to helping the nation “breathe better.”
