Takes over from Shashi Sinha after three-year tenure
Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India has appointed Gaurav Banerjee, Managing Director & CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), as its new Chairman. The announcement was made following a board meeting held on August 1, 2025. Banerjee succeeds Shashi Sinha, Executive Chairman of IPG Mediabrands India, who led BARC India since March 2022.
With over 20 years of experience in media and entertainment, Banerjee also serves as Vice President of the Indian Broadcasting & Digital Foundation (IBDF) and is on the boards of MSM-Worldwide Factual Media and Bangla Entertainment.
On his appointment, Banerjee said, “It’s a privilege to lead the world’s largest TV audience measurement company. I thank Shashi Sinha for his remarkable leadership. As media rapidly evolves, I look forward to strengthening BARC’s role as a trusted data partner in the industry.”
Outgoing Chairman Shashi Sinha reflected on his tenure, saying, “It has been an enriching journey with BARC. I’m grateful to the team for their support and extend my best wishes to Gaurav. I’m confident he’ll lead with vision and innovation.”
Nakul Chopra, CEO of BARC India, welcomed Banerjee, stating, “Gaurav’s leadership will be pivotal as BARC evolves with the needs of broadcasters and advertisers. We deeply thank Shashi Sinha for his guidance, especially in enhancing data depth and industry alignment.”
Banerjee’s appointment comes at a time when BARC is focused on navigating an increasingly converged media landscape.
