Gaurav Sawant Takes the Helm of Prime-Time With ‘India First’ on India Today TV

Gaurav Sawant, a seasoned journalist with over 30 years of experience, has been appointed as the anchor for India First, the 8 PM prime-time show on India Today TV, starting April 28, 2025. This move marks a significant shift in the channel’s evening lineup, replacing the previous program, Newstrack.

Sawant’s illustrious career includes reporting on major global events such as the Kargil War, the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, and the Kandahar hijacking. His extensive fieldwork has taken him to conflict zones across the world, including Iraq, Libya, Egypt, Ukraine, and Israel. Notably, he was the first journalist to report from Daulat Beg Oldie during the India-China Galwan standoff at an altitude of 16,900 feet.

In recognition of his dedication, Sawant was awarded the Para Wings by the Indian Navy after completing five para jumps, including an assisted free fall from a Sea King helicopter at INS Dega- an honor rarely bestowed upon civilian journalists. He has also authored Dateline Kargil: A Correspondent’s Nine-Week Account from the Battlefront, a firsthand account of the 1999 Kargil conflict.

As Managing Editor at India Today TV, Sawant brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to delivering fact-based, in-depth reporting. India First aims to provide viewers with comprehensive coverage of national and international affairs, reflecting Sawant’s dedication to journalistic integrity and excellence.
