Goa Government Urges Taxi Operators to Join App-Based Platforms to Boost Tourist Mobility and Livelihoods

Goa Taxi App and GoaMiles spearhead smart, inclusive transport solutions for a better tourism experience

In a move aimed at modernizing transport infrastructure and enhancing the tourism experience, the Government of Goais calling on local taxi operators to join state-backed digital platforms like the Goa Taxi App and GoaMiles. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote smart mobility, economic inclusion, and a tourist-friendly ecosystem through regulated, technology-driven services.

Understanding that transport is a cornerstone of any thriving tourism economy, the Department of Tourism launched the Goa Taxi App – a government-regulated, unified platform that ensures safety, efficiency, and transparent pricing. The app is transforming public mobility across Goa by integrating local operators into a single, seamless system.

Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, emphasized the inclusive goals behind the initiative:

“The Goa Taxi App is more than just a digital tool – it symbolizes a movement toward safer, more structured, and inclusive tourism. We encourage all Goan taxi operators to come onboard this free, government-backed platform built specifically to support them. This isn’t only about making travel easier for tourists – it’s about expanding sustainable livelihood opportunities for our local community.”

Launched in January 2023 at Manohar International Airport and expanded to Margao Railway Station in October 2023, the Goa Taxi App offers features like real-time tracking, dynamic fare calculation based on official rates, Google Maps integration, and multiple payment modes. Drivers benefit from a transparent ecosystem that rewards professionalism – with higher ratings leading to increased bookings. Additionally, the app reinvests convenience fees into welfare initiatives for drivers and their families.

Operating in parallel is GoaMiles, managed by the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC). Since 2018, GoaMiles has played a pivotal role in establishing Goa as a responsible, accessible, and cost-effective destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Together, the Goa Taxi App and GoaMiles have completed over 70,000 rides and onboarded more than 1,000 drivers in just over a year. These platforms ensure that passengers receive quality service at regulated fares, while drivers benefit from fair compensation and continuous digital engagement.

The Department of Tourism remains committed to building a modern, inclusive, and tech-forward tourism ecosystem – one where innovation supports both visitor satisfaction and local empowerment. As Goa reimagines its travel identity with a focus on sustainability and convenience, regulated digital taxi services are set to play a vital role in shaping positive experiences for all.
