Google Cloud and European telecom major Liberty Global have announced a five-year strategic partnership aimed at deploying advanced artificial intelligence and cloud technologies across Liberty Global’s operations in Europe. The collaboration is designed to enable smarter networks, enhance consumer services, and unlock new opportunities for businesses across the region.
As part of the agreement, Liberty Global will integrate Google Cloud’s infrastructure and Gemini AI models across its European footprint, which spans nearly 80 million fixed and mobile connections. The partnership will support the development of AI-driven consumer experiences, including enhanced search and content discovery on Liberty’s Horizon TV platform, as well as increased automation in customer service operations.
Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries described the partnership as a significant step in accelerating innovation across the company’s networks and product offerings. In addition to technology integration, the agreement expands the commercial relationship between the two companies. Liberty Global will offer a wider range of Google hardware products-such as Pixel smartphones, smartwatches, and connected home devices-through its operating companies, including Virgin Media O2, Telenet, Vodafone Ziggo, and Sunrise.
The collaboration also focuses on strengthening network performance, security, and resilience, with an emphasis on autonomous network operations. The companies are exploring opportunities for Google Cloud to utilize spare capacity in Liberty Global’s data centers, including assets associated with its AtlasEdge joint venture.
Beyond consumer services, the partnership will extend to enterprise customers, with tailored cloud, cybersecurity, and AI solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. Privacy-compliant monetization of telecom data is also under evaluation, reinforcing the alliance’s long-term strategic ambition across Europe’s digital ecosystem.
