‘AI mode’ offers smart summaries, key insights, and follow-up suggestions-now available in English and Hindi.
Google has introduced an experimental AI-powered search feature called “AI mode” for users in India. Available through Google’s Search Labs, this new tool is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to redefine how users interact with online information.
To access AI mode, users can opt in via the Google app on Android or iOS. Once activated, the feature delivers AI-generated summaries that distill web content into concise overviews, highlight key points, and offer follow-up questions for deeper exploration. It currently supports both English and Hindi, with seamless toggling between the two languages.
India is among the first countries outside the U.S. to gain early access to this capability. According to Google, AI mode is designed to complement-not replace-traditional search. It enhances the browsing experience by offering quick, AI-curated snapshots alongside conventional search results.
In addition to summaries, Google has introduced AI-organised results for specific topics such as dining and travel, helping users navigate complex queries more intuitively. These topic-specific enhancements are expected to expand in the coming months.
“This is a significant step forward in how people search,” a Google spokesperson noted. “By merging generative AI with user intent, we’re reimagining search to be faster, more useful, and more personalised.”
As part of its experimental rollout, Google is actively seeking feedback from Indian users, which will play a key role in refining the experience and informing future updates.
