Maruti Suzuki Begins eVITARA Production, Exports to Over 100 Countries Underway

Maruti Suzuki has officially commenced production of its first mass-market electric vehicle (EV), the eVITARA, at its Gujarat facility-signifying a major stride in India’s electric mobility ambitions. This marks the start of exports to more than 100 countries, including key European markets like the UK, Germany, and Norway.

Built on a dedicated EV-only platform- not a converted internal-combustion design-the eVITARA combines advanced Japanese engineering with Indian manufacturing efficiency.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first units in a launch event at the Hansalpur plant, emphasizing that India is rapidly becoming a global hub for electric vehicle production. He also inaugurated a new facility for hybrid battery electrode manufacturing, bolstering domestic EV ecosystem capabilities.

The company envisions eVITARA as one of India’s most widely produced and exported electric models. Suzuki Motor has committed to a ₹70,000 crore ($8 billion) investment over the next 5–6 years toward expanding EV production and infrastructure in the country.

Following the announcement, Maruti Suzuki’s shares surged nearly 3%, hitting a 52-week high-reflecting strong investor confidence in its electric strategy.
