Meta Launches ‘Edits’ App to Simplify Short-Form Video Creation for Creators

Meta has officially rolled out Edits, a new standalone video editing app designed to streamline short-form content creation for mobile users. Unlike Instagram or Facebook’s built-in editors, Edits operates independently and offers creators advanced tools optimized for smartphones.

Initially previewed by Instagram head Adam Mosseri in January, Edits is now available for download. It allows users to shoot up to 10 minutes of footage, precisely edit clips, and apply a range of creative effects—including green screen backgrounds, transitions, and automatic enhancements.

One of the app’s standout features is a frame-accurate editing timeline, enabling granular clip adjustments. It also includes real-time performance insights, such as skip rates, helping creators fine-tune their content based on audience engagement.

Finished videos can be shared directly to Instagram and Facebook or exported without watermarks, giving users the flexibility to publish across platforms.

Meta built Edits in close collaboration with creators, many of whom requested a more powerful mobile tool that removes the need for desktop editing. The launch aligns with Meta’s strategy to compete with rivals like TikTok and CapCut, which dominate the short-form video space.

Looking forward, Meta plans to introduce new features such as keyframe editing, AI-powered effects, and enhanced tools for brand partnerships. Additional fonts, filters, transitions, and royalty-free music options are also in the pipeline.

“We want to give creators the freedom to express themselves however and wherever they choose,” Meta said, reinforcing its commitment to empowering creative expression on mobile.
