Meta to Classify All Facebook Videos as Reels in Major Platform Update

Meta Platforms has announced a major shift in Facebook’s video strategy: moving forward, all newly uploaded videos on Facebook will be classified as Reels. The change aims to simplify content creation, streamline user experience, and align Facebook more closely with the short-form video trend that continues to dominate social media.

As part of this transition, the existing Video tab on Facebook will be renamed the Reels tab, reflecting the broader scope of what now qualifies as a Reel. While previously uploaded videos will remain as-is, any new video content shared after the update will be automatically treated as Reels.

In a significant change, Facebook Reels will no longer be limited by duration or specific format. This means creators can now upload everything-from short clips and long-form videos to live recordings-all within the Reels ecosystem.

“This shift simplifies publishing and discovery for creators and users alike,” Meta said in its official statement, adding that it supports Facebook’s evolving video strategy.

To support this rollout, Meta will prompt users to review and update audience settings, particularly if their feed posts and Reels had different visibility preferences. The update will also bring new creative tools for enhancing video content, catering to the needs of both casual users and professional creators.

Meta confirmed that the update will be rolled out gradually to Facebook profiles and pages across the globe in the coming months.
