MIB Bets Big on Creator Economy with MyWAVES Launch and AI Skilling Drive

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s media and entertainment ecosystem, with a clear push toward empowering creators and accelerating AI adoption.

At the centre of this move is the launch of MyWAVES, a citizen-driven content platform integrated into WAVES OTT. Designed to shift the platform from passive viewing to active participation, MyWAVES enables users to create, upload, and distribute content across formats such as short videos, vertical content, and episodic storytelling. With multilingual support and integration with initiatives like the Create in India Challenge, the platform aims to unlock opportunities for emerging creators across the country.

Alongside this, MIB has introduced a large-scale AI skilling programme in partnership with Google and YouTube. The initiative targets training 15,000 professionals from the media and entertainment sector, focusing on future-ready skills like generative AI, prompting, animation, VFX, gaming, and media technology.

The programme will roll out in two phases. The first phase (March–June 2026) will cover foundational AI concepts, while the second phase (July–December 2026) will deliver advanced, hands-on training using tools like Gemini, Veo, and Vertex AI, along with storytelling and YouTube-focused modules.

Additionally, the ministry announced upgrades to DD Free Dish access through in-built satellite tuners and advanced Electronic Programme Guides in television sets, aimed at improving accessibility, especially in remote regions.

Together, these initiatives signal a strategic push to democratise content creation, build creator capabilities, and position India as a global hub for digital storytelling and innovation.
