Nestlé MILKMAID has officially introduced World Kheer Day, celebrated on 30th November, honoring a dessert that holds an emotional place in Indian households. Known for enabling easy and delightful homemade sweets, MILKMAID has now taken a step forward to celebrate the cultural significance and timeless love for kheer across generations.
Kheer remains one of India’s most beloved desserts-varying widely in preparation yet deeply unified in sentiment. Whether it’s a festive moment, homecoming, milestone, or a simple family meal, kheer has long symbolized warmth, tradition, and togetherness. With MILKMAID, families have been able to recreate this emotion effortlessly through creamy, quick, and consistent recipes.
Manav Sahni, Head of Dairy Business at Nestlé India, said the initiative highlights a dessert deeply rooted in Indian heritage. He noted that though the recipes change from region to region, the emotional connection remains the same. The brand hopes the celebration will encourage more families to make and enjoy rich, flavourful kheer with MILKMAID.
Across India, kheer appears in several forms and names. Northern households favour classic rice kheer, while fasting rituals embrace sabudana kheer. Eid brings the indulgence of sheer khurma. Maharashtra celebrates with sheviyanchi kheer, Bengal with its signature payesh, and Odisha with its sacred kheeri. Down South, payasam – from semiya to palada – remains a festive staple.
Despite the diversity, one thing remains constant: kheer is more than dessert – it is a shared emotion, a memory, and a celebration in every bowl.
