Nick & Priyanka Jonas Bring India’s First #TheBeyondType Campaign to Life

Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas have launched Beyond Type 1’s first-ever India initiative – #TheBeyondType, aimed at transforming how the country sees Type 1 diabetes. Nick, diagnosed at age 13, co-founded Beyond Type 1 a decade ago, and this marks a milestone moment as the organization steps into India, home to the world’s largest young Type 1 diabetes population.

Despite the scale, awareness remains low and stigma high. Many families still miss early symptoms like extreme thirst, fatigue, frequent urination, and sudden weight loss – delays that can be dangerous.

At the heart of the campaign are real stories. From a triathlete and a marathon-running vegetable vendor to a pastry chef, dancer, and a 13-year-old karate champion – the campaign features everyday champions proving diabetes doesn’t define them. As participant Mehrin Rana puts it, “Diabetes is just a part of my life, not a limit.”

Priyanka Chopra Jonas shared that her connection deepened after witnessing Nick’s journey, while Nick emphasized that Type 1 diabetes doesn’t restrict dreams – when the right care and access exist.

The initiative also strengthens on-ground impact by supporting grassroots organizations across India – including HRIDAY, Nityaasha Foundation, Gram Jyoti and SAMATVAM Trust – focusing on awareness, medical access, and empowering individuals, especially young girls.

#TheBeyondType hopes to shift silence into conversation – replacing stigma with strength, representation, and hope.
