ON PURPOSE appointed strategic communications partner for India Mental Health Alliance

ON PURPOSE has secured the public relations and strategic communications mandate for the India Mental Health Alliance (IMHA), a not-for-profit organisation focused on strengthening India’s mental health ecosystem.

Under the mandate, ON PURPOSE will oversee media relations and strategic communications for IMHA, with an emphasis on enhancing the organisation’s visibility, supporting key events and convenings, and contributing meaningfully to the broader national conversation on mental health.

Founded by Vasvi and Ashish Bharat Ram in collaboration with Children First and AMAHA, IMHA works closely with mental health institutions, professionals, community leaders and individuals with lived experience to address systemic gaps in mental health care across the country. The alliance aims to foster collaboration, build capacity and create shared learning across sectors to improve access and outcomes in mental health.

Commenting on the partnership, Girish Balachandran, founder and managing director, ON PURPOSE, said the association aligns closely with the agency’s belief that shifting narratives is central to driving long-term change. He noted that IMHA’s focus on collaboration and capacity-building makes the partnership particularly meaningful.

Karan Malik, executive director, Kai India Mental Health Forum, IMHA, highlighted the importance of inclusive and context-sensitive mental health care in India. He said the collaboration with ON PURPOSE will help broaden public dialogue, amplify IMHA’s initiatives and encourage collective action to improve mental health outcomes.

Established in 2023, IMHA has grown into an alliance of over 250 members, including mental health organisations, academic institutions, funders, cross-sector groups and collectives representing lived experiences. Its initiatives centre on capacity building, cross-sector partnerships and collaborative learning.

As mental health gains greater prominence in public policy and social discourse, IMHA continues to focus on fostering informed dialogue and improving equitable access to mental health care across diverse communities in India.
