OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Go, a new India-exclusive subscription plan priced at ₹399 per month. The move aims to make its AI tools more accessible to Indian users, one of the company’s fastest-growing markets.
The launch follows recent comments by OpenAI founder Sam Altman, who noted in a podcast that India may soon surpass the U.S. as the company’s largest market. Currently, India ranks as the second-biggest user base for OpenAI after the United States.
ChatGPT Go significantly expands user capabilities compared to the free version. Subscribers can send up to 10 times more messages, generate 10 times more images, and upload 10 times more files. The plan also offers faster response times, enhancing the overall user experience.
Nick Turley, Vice President at ChatGPT, confirmed the update and emphasised its affordability. “Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users. We’re rolling out Go in India first and will learn from feedback before expanding to other countries,” he said.
Users can conveniently pay for the subscription using UPI, India’s most widely used digital payment method.
With ChatGPT Go, OpenAI is positioning itself to deepen its footprint in India by offering high-value features at a locally-competitive price point-potentially setting the stage for similar launches in other emerging markets.
