OpenAI – the maker of ChatGPT – is gearing up to launch an AI-powered hiring platform that could become a direct competitor to LinkedIn.
The platform, titled OpenAI Jobs Platform, is expected to go live by mid-2026 and aims to transform recruitment by using AI-driven matchmaking to connect businesses with top talent.
AI-First Recruitment
In a recent blog post, Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications at OpenAI, said the platform will leverage AI to “help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer.”
Unlike traditional job portals, the platform is designed to be data-driven and conversational, offering personalised recommendations for both employers and job seekers.
Strategic Collaborations
OpenAI is reportedly working with major employers such as John Deere and Walmart, along with consulting giants Accenture and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
The company also hinted at extending the service to community organisations and state governments, potentially making job discovery more efficient at a local level.
Benefits for Small Businesses
Simo added that the platform will be particularly valuable for small business owners and local governments, enabling them to easily find AI-vetted, qualified candidates.
The aim is not just to connect job seekers and companies but to ensure that matches are knowledgeable, experienced, and relevant – improving hiring outcomes for all parties.
A Challenge to LinkedIn
If successful, OpenAI’s entry into the recruitment space could reshape how hiring works, offering a more intelligent, personalised alternative to LinkedIn’s traditional network-driven model.
The move signals OpenAI’s ambition to expand beyond chat-based AI tools and into enterprise solutions that address real-world problems like workforce matching and skills discovery.
