GLW to air on DD Sports and stream on Waves and AIR; Season 1 to run for 40 weeks
Prasar Bharati, India’s national public broadcaster, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AEx SPORT- the sports innovation division of UK-based AdiGroupe- to bring Global League Wrestling (GLW), a new professional wrestling league, to Indian and Asia-Pacific audiences.
The collaboration aims to fuse Prasar Bharati’s expansive broadcast and digital footprint across TV, radio, and online platforms with AEx SPORT’s strength in content creation, branding, marketing, IP development, and production. Together, the partners plan to introduce a fresh sports entertainment property tailored for Indian and global viewers.
GLW will officially launch on September 17, 2025, with the first episode set to air on October 4, 2025. The show will be broadcast on DD Sports and streamed on Prasar Bharati’s digital platforms Waves and AIR, with the inaugural season spanning 40 weeks.
Speaking about the initiative, Navneet Kumar Sehgal, Chairman, Prasar Bharati, said:
“This marks a new era for Indian pro-wrestling. The goal is to elevate Indian sports to global standards. Building on our partnerships with Hockey India, the Handball Association of India, PGTI, and others, this venture underscores our commitment to showcasing diverse sports and offering India’s youth a national stage.”
Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO, Prasar Bharati, added:
“This partnership aligns with our mission to deliver engaging, culturally rich, and premium content to Indian audiences. GLW represents a new genre of youth-driven programming that marries Indian storytelling traditions with international sports entertainment benchmarks.”
Sanjay Viswanathan, Chairman of AdiGroupe and AEx SPORT, emphasized:
“GLW is part of our broader vision to create inclusive, immersive sports-based cultural experiences. Dedicating this initiative to India on September 17 reflects our aim to foster pride and confidence among Indian youth, while providing a global platform for Indian pro-wrestling talent.”
Designed to blend Indian cultural themes with global production values, the GLW format will include original characters, scripted storylines, and family-friendly entertainment, reflecting international standards in athlete presentation and narrative design.
Adding star power to the league, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali has been named brand ambassador and talent commissioner. In this role, he will oversee talent scouting, mentoring, and content development.
Khali shared his excitement, stating:
“Wrestling changed my life and gave me a global platform. GLW offers a structured, entertaining, and serious opportunity for young Indian athletes to follow the same journey. It’s their turn to shine—both in India and on the world stage-on our own terms.”
