In a groundbreaking move that merges India’s twin passions for movies and cricket, PVR INOX has partnered with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to broadcast live Indian Premier League matches across its nationwide cinema network.
The initiative kicked off on March 22 with the tournament’s opening ceremony and will continue throughout the season, featuring weekend matches and all playoff games. This innovative approach allows cricket enthusiasts to experience the electrifying atmosphere of IPL matches in premium cinema environments featuring state-of-the-art audiovisual technology.
“We’re creating an immersive cricket-viewing experience that combines the visual spectacle of our giant screens with the emotional intensity of communal viewing,” explained Gautam Dutta, CEO of Revenue & Operations at PVR INOX. “Previous cricket screenings generated tremendous audience response, confirming the appetite for this unique entertainment format.”
The screenings will span metropolitan centers including Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, while also extending into smaller cities across Punjab, Rajasthan, and Kerala—democratizing access to premium cricket viewing experiences.
Attendees can enjoy the matches in plush recliner seating while savoring gourmet food and beverage options typically unavailable at traditional sports venues. The theater chain has also introduced special match-day packages that include themed refreshments and exclusive merchandise.
This strategic initiative represents a creative solution for both the entertainment giant and the cricket board, opening new revenue streams while expanding IPL’s audience reach beyond traditional broadcast channels.
