Pilot to launch in Bengaluru by late June or early July, promising a low-cost alternative for restaurants.

Rapido, the popular ride-hailing platform, is venturing into the online food delivery market with the launch of its new service, ‘Ownly’. The company will roll out a pilot program in Bengaluru by late June or early July, marking its first step into the competitive food delivery landscape.

‘Ownly’ will enable customers to directly browse and order from partner restaurants. To strengthen its restaurant network, Rapido has partnered with the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), which represents over 50,000 eateries. The move is intended to offer a more sustainable and cost-effective model for restaurants compared to existing aggregators.

As part of its proposed zero-commission model, Rapido will charge restaurants a flat subscription fee once the platform scales. During the pilot phase, a fixed delivery fee structure will be applied—₹25 for orders below ₹400 and ₹50 for orders above ₹400-translating to an effective commission rate of 8–15%, significantly lower than the 16–30% charged by current market leaders.

To maintain transparency and fairness for consumers, the platform will mandate uniform pricing across online and offline channels. Restaurants will not be allowed to add separate packaging charges, and customers will pay only the listed menu price plus GST, without additional mark-ups.

Rapido also plans to leverage its fleet of over 2 million two-wheeler riders for deliveries. Additionally, restaurants with their own logistics teams will be given the option to handle deliveries independently.

This move comes amid rising discontent among small and independent restaurants regarding the high commission feeslevied by dominant food delivery platforms. With ‘Ownly’, Rapido aims to provide a fairer, more flexible alternative for both eateries and consumers.
