Reliance Jio Studios has acquired a 50.1% equity stake in Sikhya Entertainment Private Limited, marking a significant consolidation move in India’s rapidly evolving media and entertainment landscape. The acquisition was executed by Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited (RSBVL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, through a mix of primary and secondary transactions for a total cash consideration of ₹150 crore.
The investment strengthens Jio Studios’ position as a leading force in India’s content ecosystem. Over the years, Jio Studios has backed films and franchises that combine creative ambition with commercial scale, including Dhurandhar, Laapataa Ladies, and the Stree franchise. Its focus on building enduring intellectual property and connecting Indian stories with global audiences has made it a key driver of the country’s entertainment growth.
Founded by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, Sikhya Entertainment has built a formidable reputation for culturally rooted, globally resonant storytelling. It is the only Indian production house to have won both an Academy Award and multiple National Film Awards, with Oscar wins for Period. End of Sentence. and The Elephant Whisperers. Its acclaimed slate also includes Masaan, The Lunchbox, Pagglait, Kathal, and Kill, spanning languages and formats.
Commenting on the partnership, Jyoti Deshpande, President – Jio Studios, said the collaboration reflects a long-term belief in partnering with creators who blend creative excellence with cultural authenticity. Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain added that the alliance would enable Sikhya to take Indian stories to global audiences while continuing to champion emerging talent.
