The digital-first journalist-boasting over 15 million followers-returns to mainstream TV with a field-driven approach on one of India’s premier news channels.
NDTV India will welcome Shubhankar Mishra to its prime-time lineup from July 2025, marking a return to traditional television for the journalist-turned-influencer renowned for his fearless on-ground reporting and expansive social media presence.
Born on 10 April 1993 in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, Mishra began his career by studying mechanical engineering at Galgotias University before pivoting to journalism-a decision sparked by early inspiration from the film 3 Idiots. He has anchored key shows across networks like India News, Zee News, TV9 Bharatvarsh, and Aaj Tak, earning recognition for reporting from remote locations-from Kargil’s Tiger Hills to the flood-ravaged villages of Assam.
In mid-2023, Mishra left Aaj Tak, citing a desire to pursue independent journalism “to be more present in the field”. Since then, his digital platforms-NewsBook and CricketBook-and his personal YouTube channel have grown his reach to over 15 million followers across platforms.
Mishra reflected on his return to televised news:
“I am not here to be comfortable. I am here to ask what needs to be asked. And I believe NDTV is one of the few places left where you are encouraged to do just that.”
Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of NDTV, praised him:
“Shubhankar represents the kind of journalism this moment demands-fearless, field-first, and deeply connected to the idea of India. His massive digital following is not just about numbers-it’s about trust. At NDTV, we are proud to back voices that push the needle and redefine the narrative.”
The move places NDTV at the forefront of evolving media trends, blending traditional broadcast with digital engagement. Mishra’s arrival promises to revitalize prime-time coverage with his signature blend of ground-level storytelling and audience-driven perspectives.
