The Rebel Kid Moves from Perplexity to ChatGPT

AI platforms are increasingly turning to storytellers to make chatbots feel less like complex technology and more like everyday companions.

The Rebel Kid has built a reputation for turning life’s chaos into compelling content. Recently, she posted a dramatic tale about Perplexity – the AI chatbot she claimed advised her to get stitches after a late-night bar mishap in Mykonos. With the doctor unsure at 2 a.m., she said, the machine filled the gap. This week, however, her spotlight has shifted to ChatGPT.

The switch followed a date gone wrong. The boy wanted someone she insists she isn’t. After returning home to find her friends asleep, she did what an increasing number of people do for comfort: she opened an AI chatbot.

Her conversation with ChatGPT ended when she hit her free-message limit. She immediately subscribed to the Rs 1,999 monthly Plus plan-only to discover later that an India-specific plan costs Rs 399. Confused, she turned back to ChatGPT for advice.

Her Instagram reel resembles an advertisement, though it carries none of the disclosures mandated by the Advertising Standards Council of India. Paid or not, it reflects a larger trend. The Rebel Kid shows no allegiance to any single platform, and AI companies are now vying for creators like her to help reposition chatbots as accessible, everyday tools.

Influencers are proving especially effective. Perplexity already partnered with CarryMinati and global name Lewis Hamilton. Meanwhile, ChatGPT has expanded its presence in India through clean outdoor ads spotlighting prompts and a sponsorship of the upcoming Women’s Premier League. With influencers now entering the mix, the contest for user attention is only intensifying.

Whether The Rebel Kid’s post was organic or orchestrated remains uncertain. What’s clear is that India is ChatGPT’s second-largest market – and the competition has just begun.
