TVS Motor Takes the Lead in India’s Electric Two-Wheeler Market in CY25

TVS Motor Company has emerged as India’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in calendar year 2025 (CY25), overtaking Ola Electric for the first time. The achievement marks a significant shift in the country’s fast-evolving electric mobility landscape.

According to industry data, overall electric two-wheeler sales in India grew by 11.4 per cent year-on-year to 1,279,951 units in CY25. During the same period, electric passenger vehicle (EV) sales witnessed a sharper rise of 77 per cent, reaching 176,817 units, albeit from a smaller base. This surge in electric car sales was largely driven by new model launches from players such as JSW MG Motor, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Hyundai Motor India.

TVS Motor recorded a robust 35 per cent growth in electric two-wheeler sales, selling 298,881 units during the year. This strong performance helped the company move ahead of Ola Electric, which saw a steep decline in sales. Ola sold 199,318 electric two-wheelers in CY25, slipping to the fourth position after its sales dropped by 51 per cent from 400,707 units in the previous year.

Bajaj Auto secured the second spot with sales of 269,847 electric two-wheelers, while Ather Energy ranked third with 200,797 units sold. These figures are based on data compiled from the government’s Vahan portal by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).

Despite steady growth, electric two-wheelers accounted for only 6.3 per cent of the overall two-wheeler market in CY25, a marginal increase from 6.1 per cent in CY24. In contrast, electric vehicle penetration in the passenger car segment rose more noticeably, climbing to 4 per cent from 2.4 per cent year-on-year.
