According to the platform, New Year’s Eve continues to be its most active day of the year, consistently outperforming regular daily traffic that already crosses 100 billion messages and nearly 2 billion calls. Over this 24-hour period, people across countries and time zones turn to the app to stay emotionally connected with friends, families and loved ones.

To enhance the festive mood, WhatsApp has rolled out a set of limited-period features designed especially for the holiday season. Users can access a new 2026-themed sticker pack, along with playful video call effects featuring fireworks, confetti and star animations. Emoji-based reactions have also been upgraded to trigger animated confetti, adding more expression to chats. In a first for the platform, animated stickers are now available on Status updates, offering special New Year layouts to share greetings and moments.

Alongside celebrations, WhatsApp is also promoting its practical tools to help users plan gatherings with ease. Group chats now allow users to create and pin events, collect RSVPs, run polls to decide menus or activities, and share live locations to help guests navigate venues or confirm safe arrivals. Voice notes and video messages continue to play a key role in sharing real-time experiences with those celebrating remotely.
