WhatsApp rolls out scheduled calls, hand-raise, and emoji reactions

WhatsApp has rolled out new calling features aimed at making both personal and professional conversations more interactive, organised, and user-friendly.

The update introduces the ability to schedule group calls, allowing users to plan ahead by sending invitations to individuals or entire groups. Participants will receive notifications when the call is about to begin, ensuring better coordination.

In addition, WhatsApp has added two in-call interaction tools:

  • “raise hand” feature, helping participants signal when they’d like to speak-ideal for structured conversations.
  • Emoji reactions, allowing users to respond non-verbally without disrupting the flow of the conversation.

The Calls tab has also been updated to display upcoming calls, participant lists, and shareable call links. Creators of scheduled calls will be notified when someone joins using a link.

These features are part of a global rollout and are available across platforms. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, confirmed that all personal calls remain end-to-end encrypted, preserving user privacy.

With these new tools, WhatsApp continues to evolve beyond messaging, offering enhanced functionality for group coordination, virtual meetings, and everyday communication.
