YouTube has begun rolling out its new personalized Recap feature for users across India, offering a tailored snapshot of their yearly viewing journey. Available on both mobile and desktop, users can easily access the feature on the YouTube homepage or under the “You” tab.
The Recap experience presents up to 12 interactive cards that showcase top channels, most-watched content categories, and evolving viewing habits. It also brings a spotlight to users’ entertainment choices, especially within YouTube Music, including favourite songs, artists, podcasts, and genres. Users interested in more detailed listening insights can explore a deeper breakdown in the YouTube Music app.
This feature is the result of extensive testing and feedback-YouTube conducted nine rounds of user research and reviewed over 50 concept versions before finalizing the format. The platform aims to make Recap both reflective and fun, turning viewing patterns into a shareable storytelling moment.
One standout element is the introduction of content-based viewer personas, allowing users to see which personality type matches their consumption pattern. Popular personas include Sunshiner, Wonder Seeker, and Connector, while more unique profiles like Philosopher and Dreamer add a sense of rarity and individuality to the experience.
Beyond insights, Recap is designed to be interactive and social. Users can save or share their cards, making it a digital celebration of their year in content-from binge-worthy creators to unforgettable music tracks.
The rollout marks YouTube’s latest effort to deepen user engagement by blending personalization, data, and shareable experiences-similar to trends seen with Wrapped-style year-end summaries across the creator and streaming ecosystem.
