Apple’s much-anticipated iPhone 17 launch at its “Awe Dropping” event on September 9 has set the internet abuzz – and rival Samsung wasted no time joining the conversation with its signature brand of playful trolling.
Samsung Revives Its 2022 Foldable Phone Tweet
Shortly after the event, Samsung Mobile US reposted its now-iconic 2022 tweet mocking Apple’s lack of a foldable device. The brand quote-tweeted its own line – “Let us know when it folds” – adding a cheeky update:
“#iCant believe this is still relevant.”
The hashtag #iCant has since turned into Samsung’s rallying cry, appearing across a series of posts aimed at Apple’s newest launches.
Samsung even jumped into the replies of tech influencer Marques Brownlee, posting:
“Actual innovation > hype #iCant.”
Mixed Reactions Online
While Samsung’s jabs drew laughs and engagement, Apple loyalists quickly came to the brand’s defense.
- Some dismissed Samsung’s trolling, with one user replying: “Stay relevant for the next decade.”
- Others pointed out Samsung’s own history of following Apple’s lead, joking: “Remember when y’all said you wouldn’t remove headphone jacks – where are they now?”
The conversation quickly became a showdown between brand loyalists, meme-makers, and tech commentators.
Apple iPhone 17: The Upgrades
Despite the social media banter, Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup has been drawing attention for its major technical upgrades, including:
- Larger, brighter ProMotion display with triple scratch resistance
- Faster charging support
- A19 Bionic chip for stronger performance
- 48MP Dual Fusion rear camera + Centre Stage-enabled front camera for enhanced video calls
Apple also unveiled the iPhone 17 Pro, the ultra-thin iPhone Air, AirPods Pro 3, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 3 at the same event.
Kaiann Drance, Apple’s VP of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, summed up the launch:
