India Today Group has partnered with Google to accelerate newsroom transformation through AI-powered automation, aiming to make content creation faster, smarter, and more efficient.

At the centre of this collaboration is Pragya, a proprietary AI-driven newsroom workflow platform developed jointly with Google. Integrated with the company’s content management system, the platform is designed to streamline editorial operations while helping journalists focus more on storytelling, reporting, and fact-checking.

Pragya introduces several AI-assisted capabilities including automated keyword generation, story highlights, kickers, and draft creation. The platform also supports editorial and audience growth teams by simplifying content workflows and reducing operational bottlenecks. Despite the use of AI, all content continues to go through human editorial review to maintain accuracy and credibility.

The system also includes a dedicated Journalist App that enables reporters to upload text, videos, audio, and documents directly from the field in real time. This integration allows smoother coordination between reporting teams and newsroom editors, significantly improving publishing speed.

According to the media group, the AI-led integration has already delivered measurable results, including a 30% reduction in publishing turnaround time, a 10% increase in content output, and a two-fold rise in user engagement.

The initiative reflects a larger industry shift where AI is increasingly being used to support newsroom operations rather than replace journalism itself.
