Mathrubhumi Group has rolled out a series of FIFA World Cup initiatives spanning its print, digital, television, radio and magazine platforms, combining prediction contests with dedicated editorial coverage of the tournament.
Mathrubhumi Daily, the group’s print edition, has introduced a daily prediction contest titled “Panthattam.” Readers participate by filling out a coupon published on the sports page and uploading it via QR code, with daily and weekly cash prizes on offer and a Tata EV as the grand prize for the overall winner.
Sports Masika has brought out a 124-page FIFA World Cup special edition covering the tournament’s history, team previews, player profiles and analysis. Mathrubhumi Online has launched a dedicated FIFA World Cup section featuring news, articles, analysis and its own online prediction contest.
On television, Mathrubhumi News has introduced a daily prediction contest where viewers submit entries via SMS or WhatsApp, with a winner announced each day on Varthakal Ithuvare. Club FM has added an on-air prediction contest, inviting listeners to predict daily match winners through a Google Form shared via WhatsApp, with cash prizes for winners.
M V Shreyams Kumar, Managing Director of Mathrubhumi Group, said football carries an emotional intensity that unites audiences globally, going well beyond the game itself. He added that the group’s multi-platform initiatives are designed to tap into that energy, aiming to make the World Cup experience more engaging and immersive for readers and viewers across all its platforms.
The initiative underscores Mathrubhumi’s push to weave tournament-driven engagement across its entire media ecosystem, rather than confining coverage to a single platform.
