Ministry of Tourism, Google India Sign MoU for Digital Tourism Outreach

The Union Ministry of Tourism has signed a memorandum of understanding with Google India to boost the digital promotion of India’s tourism destinations using AI, data-driven insights and other digital technologies, as reported by The Economic Times.

The MoU was exchanged in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Under the agreement, both organisations will collaborate on digital tourism promotion, knowledge sharing, capacity building, and emerging technologies to strengthen visitor engagement. The partnership is non-commercial, non-binding and non-exclusive, carrying no financial implications for either side.

According to the ministry, Google’s digital ecosystem and its insights into global travel trends, traveller behaviour and online engagement will feed directly into the ministry’s tourism promotion strategies.

Shekhawat said digital technologies can create immersive experiences that showcase India’s cultural sites to global audiences, adding that harnessing cutting-edge tech can reshape how travellers discover, experience and engage with the country’s heritage. He noted the collaboration reflects the ministry’s push toward innovative, technology-driven tourism promotion under the Incredible India initiative.

As part of the partnership, Google will also run training and capacity-building programmes for ministry officials, covering digital marketing tools, campaign optimisation, content creation and emerging technologies including AI.

The MoU marks a fresh step in the government’s broader effort to modernise India’s tourism outreach, positioning digital platforms and AI-driven insights as central tools in showcasing the country’s cultural and natural heritage worldwide.
