Advertising Veteran Jishnu Sen Passes Away

Advertising and marketing veteran Jishnu Sen, former President and CEO of Grey India, passed away in the early hours of Sunday.

The news was shared by his cousin, Shubho Sengupta, who described Sen as a respected industry leader with an enduring passion for life despite battling health issues in recent years.

With a career spanning over two decades, Sen held several leadership roles across advertising, marketing and retail. He led Grey India as President and CEO from 2007 to 2014, after earlier stints at JWT and Young & Rubicam, where he managed the Colgate business across the Asia-Pacific region.

He later moved to the corporate side, serving as Director of Brand Strategy at Essar Telecom Retail and Chief Marketing Officer at Big Bazaar Future Retail. In recent years, Sen worked as an independent marketing consultant, advising consumer technology startups and mentoring businesses on brand building, growth strategy and marketing.

Over the course of his career, he contributed to the growth of brands including Future Group, Pepsi, GSK, Yum Foods, Colgate-Palmolive, Britannia, Reliance Telecom and Ferrero.

Former Grey India Chief Creative Officer Malvika Mehra paid tribute to Sen, remembering him as a supportive leader who played a defining role in her career.

Known for his strategic thinking and leadership, Sen worked across multiple international markets, helping shape brands throughout the Asia-Pacific region. His contributions to India’s advertising and marketing industry leave behind a lasting legacy that will be remembered by colleagues, clients and the wider communications fraternity.
