The Central Government has appointed Anand Mahindra as a Part-time, Non-official Director on the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a four-year term, effective August 20, 2026, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
Mahindra will continue to serve on the RBI’s apex board while holding his position as Chairman of the Mahindra Group, one of India’s most diversified business conglomerates with interests spanning automobiles, farm equipment, technology, financial services, hospitality and several other sectors.
His continued presence on the Central Board brings decades of corporate leadership experience to the institution, reinforcing the RBI’s practice of drawing on senior industry voices to inform its governance and policy deliberations. The Central Board of the RBI plays a key role in overseeing the functioning of the central bank, and part-time non-official directors are typically appointed to bring in perspectives from industry, academia, and other sectors of the economy, complementing the expertise of the RBI’s full-time officials.
Mahindra’s association with the RBI is not new, and his reappointment signals continuity in the composition of the board as the central bank navigates an evolving economic landscape, including questions around monetary policy, financial sector regulation and India’s broader growth trajectory.
As Chairman of the Mahindra Group, Mahindra has been a prominent voice in Indian industry, known for his active presence on social media and his commentary on business, innovation and public affairs, alongside his stewardship of the conglomerate’s diverse business verticals.
