Meta’s Edits Film Festival Challenges Creators to Turn Raw Footage Into Cinema

Meta has launched the Edits Film Festival, a 45-day creator initiative inviting users across India to transform ordinary, unpolished footage into short-form cinematic Reels using its standalone Edits video creation app. Running from August 25 to October 8, the festival requires creators to submit original Reels made using Edits, placing the app’s toolkit – filters, effects, fonts, audio effects, overlays and music – at the centre of the competition.

According to Meta, the idea is simple: an accidental clip, an unused shot, or everyday footage sitting unnoticed in someone’s camera roll can become a visually distinctive piece of content. To participate, creators must create and publish an original Reel during the submission window, describe the specific Edits features used directly in the caption, tag @metaindia and @weareyuvaa, and include the hashtag #EditsFilmFestival.

A shortlist of 10 to 20 Reels will be selected for screening at an exclusive Edits Film Festival event. Some shortlisted creators will be recognised by the jury, have their work showcased across Meta India’s social channels, and gain early access to upcoming Edits features. Entries will be evaluated on three fronts: originality of story, how effectively creators reimagine ordinary footage, and creativity in using Edits’ tools.

The jury includes actor Ahsaas Channa, content creator Dolly Singh, Yuvaa co-founder Nikhil Taneja, and Dharma Cornerstone Agency COO and film critic Rajeev Masand. Taneja noted that Gen Z creators are frequently behind Instagram’s biggest trends, calling the festival an opportunity to spotlight that talent. Meta’s Ankit Rihal framed Edits as a creative studio for everyday cinematic moments.
