Dyson has launched CameraJet, a toothbrush that pairs a built-in camera with machine learning to spot gaps between teeth and fire targeted jets of mouthrinse while brushing. Founder and chief engineer James Dyson unveiled the device in Paris on September 1, with the launch currently limited to select markets; India availability will be announced closer to launch.
CameraJet uses a 100,000-pixel macro lens and Dyson’s Gap Optical Targeting system to scan 28 live images per second, triggering a conical mouthrinse jet within 100 milliseconds of detecting a gap. The underlying machine learning model was trained on 470,000 dental images, with the product built on 16 million lines of code.
The system works alongside sonic brushing, with variable oscillation and a dual-bristle head – firmer inner bristles, softer outer bristles – designed to clean both tooth surface and gumline. Dyson claims external testing showed up to 69% more plaque removal than leading premium electric toothbrushes in hard-to-reach spots, with plaque-removal performance validated over five years with the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Dentistry.
The device also includes a 12.5ml mouthrinse tank, a three-second refill-and-charge docking station, and a travel case. Dyson is launching its own non-foaming toothpaste and low-foaming mouthrinse alongside it, in Ginger Mint, Spearmint and (for toothpaste) Peppermint Sensitive.
CameraJet connects via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to the MyDyson app, offering live teeth-view, guided cleaning and coverage feedback. Dyson says the camera activates only during live viewing or auto-jetting, with no images recorded or stored.
