Pocket Entertainment is making a second run at short-form drama, launching Pocket Saga just two months after shutting down its earlier bet, Pocket TV, according to Moneycontrol.
Pocket Saga builds on Pocket Toons, the company’s AI-first comics venture from February 2025, and now leans into animated, anime-style and AI-generated adaptations of existing Pocket FM stories across romance, fantasy, action and thriller genres, with thousands of bite-sized episodes already live.
Monetisation follows a familiar coins-based model – users get free initial episodes, then unlock more via purchased or earned virtual coins, with additional free episodes released over time.
CEO Rohan Nayak had earlier flagged the format’s core challenge: acquiring users is easy, retaining them isn’t, and the unit economics aren’t as attractive as they appear. Pocket Saga’s animation-and-AI-first approach seems designed to fix exactly that – cutting production costs versus live-action shoots and making it cheaper to test and scale stories.
The relaunch lands as India’s microdrama race intensifies, with Amazon, JioHotstar, Zee5, Kuku, ShareChat and even e-commerce players like Flipkart entering the space. The market, valued at $300 million in 2025, is projected to hit $1.5 billion by year-end and $4.5 billion by 2030 – testing whether anyone can make the format stick.
