Huma Qureshi Launches Saree Brand Freefall in Partnership With Dressfolk

Actress Huma Qureshi has launched Freefall, a new saree brand created in partnership with Indian handloom label Dressfolk, built around a distinctive idea – placing the woman, rather than the occasion, at the centre of the design philosophy.

The debut collection brings together handwoven textiles from Chanderi, Varanasi, and Kutch, with each saree crafted in collaboration with master artisans and taking over 50 hours to complete. Rather than treating these weaving traditions as separate categories, Freefall blends them into a single collection shaped by Qureshi’s personal relationship with the saree as a garment.

Qureshi said the brand was born from wanting to explore the space where heritage meets contemporary living – creating sarees that feel effortless and modern while staying rooted in the craft behind them. For her, the intent ultimately comes down to one thing: feeling like yourself in what you wear.

Nitin Mehrotra, Founder of Dressfolk, added that working with master artisans across the three regions allowed the team to honour the depth of the craft while making it relevant to how people dress today. He emphasised that the goal was never to dilute the craft, but to create the right context for a wider audience to discover and appreciate it.

With Freefall, Qureshi steps into the growing space of celebrity-led fashion labels that lean on craft-first storytelling – positioning the brand less as a traditional occasion-wear line and more as an everyday expression of identity rooted in Indian textile heritage.
