IndusInd Bank Begins Advertising Credit Cards on ChatGPT

IndusInd Bank has started advertising its credit card offerings on ChatGPT, becoming one of the early Indian brands to use OpenAI’s new ad platform. The bank said the move is aimed at expanding its digital engagement and giving consumers an additional way to discover its credit card products.

The development follows the rollout of ChatGPT Ads in India in August, when more than 50 brands came onboard through agency partners WPP and Omnicom. Self-serve access through Ads Manager has since opened to Indian advertisers. OpenAI said the platform reached a $1 billion annualised revenue run rate in under 200 days and is used by tens of thousands of advertisers across more than 40 countries.

Unlike keyword-led search advertising, ChatGPT Ads rely on the context and intent of a conversation, along with the ad’s landing page, title, copy and advertiser-provided hints. Ads appear below responses and are labelled as sponsored. OpenAI says advertisers cannot influence or alter answers, do not access user conversations, and receive only aggregated reporting. This suits categories like financial services, where consumers compare products and eligibility before deciding.

The platform supports impression- and click-based buying, CPC bidding and conversion-optimised campaigns, with metrics such as CTR, CPM and conversions tracked in Ads Manager. OpenAI is also testing Sponsored Agents, which let users chat with a business-sponsored agent after clicking an ad, and has added AI-assisted ad creation and integrations with HubSpot and Shopify. IndusInd’s entry shows brands beginning to test paid visibility within AI-led discovery.
