Robert Downey Jr. Steps Into AR as SPECS’ Honorary Chief Customer Experience Officer

Robert Downey Jr. has joined SPECS as its honorary chief customer experience officer (CCEO), a role aimed at helping people understand what the product can do. SPECS is a computer built into see-through augmented reality glasses, letting wearers interact with digital experiences in their surroundings through hand gestures and voice commands. The glasses are designed for communication, entertainment and everyday tasks.

In his new position, Downey Jr. will work across the organisation to explore fresh capabilities, shape Lens experiences and create original content. He will also collaborate on hardware and in-person experiences. The actor brings nearly two decades of curiosity about augmented reality to the role. Announcing the association, he said he was won over after trying the product for just 40 seconds, and pointed to its potential across entertainment, education, business and beyond.

Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc., said Downey Jr.’s long-standing interest in AR’s possibilities would help the company bring its vision to life.

To mark the partnership, Downey Jr. has launched a series of original episodes showing SPECS in action. They cover how the glasses can improve workspaces, sharpen a golf swing, enhance entertainment viewing and build artistic skills. The series is available on the SPECS website and YouTube. The collaboration makes its broadcast debut during the New York Knicks versus Philadelphia 76ers tip-off game, and an episode will also air during Game 1 of the World Series on October 23.
