Netflix is experimenting with a new way to help viewers decide what to watch. The streaming giant is testing AI Discover, a dedicated tab on its TV app that uses artificial intelligence to suggest shows and films based on a user’s mood, interests and viewing preferences. The feature is currently available only to a small group of members in the US.
Users can pick from themes such as “Something Light”, “Scare Me”, “Family Movie Night” and “Quick Watches” to get recommendations. They can dig deeper through more specific themes or choose “Something Different” for a fresh set of suggestions. A “Tune Your Recommendations” option lets them keep a title or tell Netflix not to suggest it again.
Netflix said AI helps generate the themes and explain why each title is recommended. The system also responds to feedback in real time, adjusting future suggestions within AI Discover as users interact with it.
For now, the company is treating AI Discover as a separate discovery experience, and user feedback will help decide which elements could eventually move into the main Netflix interface. The test will first reach members in the US who use Netflix in English on supported TVs, with access expected to expand to more users over the coming weeks. It marks another important step in Netflix’s ongoing push to make choosing what to watch next faster, simpler and more personal.
