Airtel has announced a groundbreaking agreement with SpaceX to offer Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet services to customers across India. The partnership is contingent upon SpaceX receiving necessary regulatory authorizations to operate Starlink in the country.
Under this first-of-its-kind agreement in India, the companies will explore multiple collaboration opportunities, including offering Starlink equipment in Airtel retail stores, providing Starlink services to Airtel business customers, and connecting remote communities, schools, and health centers throughout rural India.
The partnership will also examine how Starlink can enhance Airtel’s existing network infrastructure while leveraging Airtel’s ground network capabilities to benefit SpaceX’s operations in India.
This initiative complements Airtel’s existing alliance with Eutelsat OneWeb, further strengthening its ability to deliver nationwide connectivity to underserved areas. For enterprises and businesses, Airtel will offer comprehensive connectivity packages incorporating Starlink’s enterprise solutions.
“Working with SpaceX is a significant milestone and demonstrates our commitment to next-generation satellite connectivity,” said Gopal Vittal, Managing Director of Bharti Airtel. “This collaboration enhances our ability to bring world-class broadband to even the most remote parts of India.”
Gwynne Shotwell, President of SpaceX, added: “We are excited to work with Airtel and unlock the transformative impact Starlink can bring to the people of India.”
